Research interests | Huang Lab
We are pursuing the following research directions:
- The TET family of epigenetic enzymes in health and disease
- Molecular tools to study gene expression and cell signaling
- Hematological malignancies and cancer immunotherapy
- DNA methylation and demethylation homeostasis
- Heart development, regeneration, and repair
TET enzymes
We study the TET family of epigeneic enzymes that catalyze the oxidation of 5-methylcytosine (5mC) to generate the "sixth" base in the human genome
DNA (de)methylation
We are interested in identifying epigenetic abnormalities assocaited with human diseases. We were among the first to profile the "sixth" base in stem cells and cancer cells
Epigenome engineering
We are creating innovative molecular tools by exploiting engineered CRISPR proteins to resculpt the human epigenome to achieve tailored function.
Heart development & repair
We have a long-term Outstanding Investigator Award from NIH to study how epigenetic changes in the heart modulate cardiac development and repiar
Molecular tool development
We are pioneering chemical and synthetic biology appraoches to develop new classes of synbio tools to mainpulate protein activity and cell physiology
Cancer immuotherapy
We are exploring molecular mechanisms, as well as nanobody-based therapeutics, that can be utilized to boost immunotherapy to combat cancer and other diseases.
